Job Description

We are pleased to be working with our public sector client to recruit a Justice Worker on a temporary basis to support individuals within the justice system and the wider community.

Role: Justice Worker
Location: Edinburgh
Hours: Monday to Friday - 36 hours per week (Occasional infrequent late working up to 18:30)
Pay Rate: £17.72 per hour
Duration: Temporary until end of March (sickness cover)
Start Date: Immediate

This role requires a PVG Certificate (£59 for a new application or £18 to update an existing certificate).
 

 
This is a rewarding and impactful role supporting people in prison or the community on a statutory or voluntary basis. You will contribute to safety planning, risk assessment and interventions aimed at reducing reoffending, vulnerability and harm, while promoting wellbeing and positive change.
The role operates within national legislation, justice social work standards and organisational policies.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting individuals through one-to-one and group work interventions, including accredited programmes
  • Managing a caseload and contributing to assessments, reports and court-related work
  • Supporting risk assessment and risk management processes alongside senior staff
  • Participating in duty rotas, court cover, meetings and reviews as required
  • Working closely with colleagues across justice services and partner agencies
  • Liaising with housing, mental health, substance use and third sector services
  • Providing practical support, information and signposting to promote engagement
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential records and working in line with legislation and procedures

 
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience working with people affected by substance misuse, mental health issues or homelessness
  • A trauma-informed, empathetic approach with the ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • Resilience and confidence working with individuals who may be distressed or in crisis
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • No formal qualification or SSSC registration is required.

 

Working Environment
This role involves working with sensitive and sometimes distressing information. You will support individuals with complex needs, requiring resilience, professionalism and a calm, supportive approach.
 
Additional Information

  • Ongoing support through training, supervision and team working
