Job Description

Network Engineers are field-based and oversee the day-to-day operation of the wastewater network, which includes work being carried out by contractors. 

Network Engineers are responsible for leading the emergency response to reported pollutions, sewer flooding investigations and burst rising mains, as well as overseeing remedial work on complex issues such as sewer collapses and sinkholes.  They will also undertake planned activity, such as customer appointments, balancing pond inspections and site audits.

The role has a 6 week shift pattern, of which one week is working standby (i.e. covering emergencies out of hours).

What you’ll be doing as a Network Engineer:
  • Lead the field investigation of emergency wastewater network incidents.
  • Carry out water quality inspections/samples of watercourses to assess impact of ‘escape of sewage’.
  • Maintain accurate records of work in corporate systems, including site photos, investigation notes and recommendations for next steps.
  • Responsible for carrying out health and safety inspections of balancing ponds and pipe bridges.
  • Proactively engage with communities to prevent complaints and minimise disruption to local residents.
  • Carry out Health and Safety audits of contractors, sites, and internal teams for compliance with the relevant standards and regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring financial efficiency during day-to-day network operations.
Base location: London – Mogden, Isleworth – TW77LW

Working pattern or hours: 38 Hours Monday-Friday, plus the inclusion on a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.

What you should bring to the role?
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
  • Knowledge of pipe-laying/pipeline construction.
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Full driving license essential.
  • Good IT skills.
Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:
  • Engineering background is highly desirable.
  • Relevant technical qualification desirable but not essential.
  • A working knowledge of sewer network advantageous, especially Health & Safety.
  • NRSWA Signing, lighting, and guarding - Unit 2, Operatives, preferrable.
