Job Description

We are looking for a self-motivated, passionate, and proactive Water Site SCADA Systems Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) team. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily maintenance and fault-finding of Site SCADA systems (including AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware, Iconics, and RSView) for critical water treatment works, reservoirs, and booster stations across your region.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the digital transformation of the UK’s largest water company, supporting reliable, resilient, and secure SCADA operations that keep water services running 24/7.

What you’ll do as a Site SCADA Systems Engineer (Water)

SCADA System Support
  • Maintain high availability of site-based SCADA platforms (targeting 99.2% uptime or higher).
  • Deliver essential planned maintenance, including health checks, patches, and hotfixes.
  • Implement and test disaster recovery plans and complete annual “data of last resort” backups.
  • Deliver Site SCADA system updates and upgrades, ensuring programmable OT/ICA assets are maintained and current.
  • Respond to SCADA-related service requests (TAPS) within 15 working days.
  • Implement and maintain security improvements to enhance site OT system resilience.

Emergency & Out-of-Hours Coverage
  • Participate in the in-hours and out-of-hours support roster for SCADA fault response.
  • Provide emergency technical support and fault rectification to operations teams.
  • Proactively use the OT fault database to optimise service delivery and reduce repeat incidents.
  • Escalate recurring faults for investigation, root cause analysis, and mitigation planning.

Project & Change Support
  • Champion the OT Change Management and Risk Assessment process to ensure minimal operational impact.
  • Provide technical input during the design and delivery stages of Capital Delivery projects.
  • Ensure all OT system changes are controlled, documented, and authorised.
  • Supply SCADA asset, alarm, and event data reports to support operations and compliance.
  • Identify and manage key local OT stakeholders to maintain alignment and effective delivery.

Technical Collaboration & Mentoring
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Site SCADA systems and operational technology architecture in your area.
  • Provide mentoring, technical support, and guidance to ICA Technicians and local operational teams.
  • Foster collaboration within the wider OT Service & Technical team to deliver consistent, high-quality support.

Base location – Hybrid – Thames Valley-based offices and operational water sites

Working pattern – 36 hours Monday to Friday, with participation in an on-call rota

What you should bring to the role

Essential Experience
  • Experience in the maintenance and/or delivery of SCADA or ICA systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with operations teams.
  • Strong customer service orientation with effective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, balancing technical, operational, and customer-focused decision-making.

Essential Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Recognised technical qualification in OT, ICA, or SCADA systems.
  • Hands-on expertise in site-based SCADA and PLC systems, with up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware and legacy SCADA systems such as Iconics and RSView.
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of extended SCADA programming, MS applications, and IP-based communications (LAN/WLAN).

Desirable Experience
  • Experience managing competing priorities and delivering both reactive and project-based work.
  • Knowledge or prior experience in the water industry, utilities, or a similar regulated sector.
  • Experience negotiating with Operations to secure funding for OT hardware (e.g. servers, switches, UPS systems).

Desirable Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical problem-solving and fault resolution expertise.
  • Understanding of basic LAN network design and troubleshooting principles.
  • Awareness of network redundancy and resilience concepts such as VLANs, subnets, and redundancy protocols.

What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary: Up to £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Car Allowance: £4,500.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays).
  • Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets
  • Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
