Job Description

Are you ready to lead economic thinking at the heart of one of the UK’s most vital utilities? Thames Water is seeking a Head of Regulatory and Market Economics—a pivotal senior role driving strategy, analysis, and influence across the regulatory landscape.

You’ll lead a talented team delivering high-quality economic insight that shapes decisions worth billions. From steering the 2029 price review to influencing Ofwat consultations, your work will secure positive outcomes for our customers and the company.

What you will be doing as Head of Regulatory and Market Economics
  • Lead economic strategy for the 2029 price review and beyond.
  • Inspire and develop a team of analysts to deliver influential advice.
  • Represent senior leadership, deputising for the Director of Economic Regulation.
  • Shape regulatory responses, drafting papers for the Executive and Board.
  • Build external networks to influence regulation for the benefit of society.
  • Extend economic expertise across the business, driving innovation and impact.

Working Pattern - Hybrid, Reading

What you should bring to the role
  • A degree in a highly analytical subject is beneficial.
  • You will be an expert in the technical economic aspects of Water regulation with a strong understanding of the principles of regulatory economics, particularly risks and return.
  • Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing ability.
  • Track record of delivering complex projects and quality outcomes.
