Daily rate: £100 to £130 depending on experience
Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate
SEN Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) to join a specialist school setting in East London. This role involves supporting pupils with complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs, within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with PMLD
- Support pupils with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility where required
- Assist with sensory-based learning activities, including hydrotherapy, sensory rooms, and tactile learning
- Support pupils using communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, objects of reference, and assistive technology
- Work closely with the class teacher and multidisciplinary teams (therapists, nurses, SENCO)
- Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and care plans
- Support pupils’ emotional regulation, engagement, and well-being
- Maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Record observations and contribute to progress reviews
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
Person Specification
Essential:- Experience working with PMLD pupils in a school, SEN school, or care setting
- Willingness and ability to support personal care and medical needs
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Desirable:- Training or experience in Makaton, PECS, or sensory integration
- Manual handling or moving and handling training
- Experience working alongside therapists or medical professionals
- Relevant SEN qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN training)
