Teaching Assistant – PRU – Walsall
Are you a resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people who have faced barriers to education? This specialist PRU in Walsall is looking to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1-2-1 support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students re-engage with learning in a structured and supportive environment.

As a Teaching Assistant in this setting, you will work closely with teaching staff and the pastoral team to support students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. You will play a vital role in helping students to regulate their emotions, manage behaviour, and develop the confidence they need to succeed both academically and socially.
 
Job Role:
  • Providing 1-2-1 support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Building strong, positive relationships to help students feel safe and supported.
  • Supporting students to self-regulate and develop positive coping strategies.
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management.
  • Delivering targeted interventions to help students re-engage with learning.
  • Managing behaviour using de-escalation strategies and clear boundaries.
  • Working closely with the pastoral team to support students’ emotional well-being.
  • Recording progress and incidents and feeding back to teaching staff and leaders.
 
Requirements:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, LSA, or in a similar role.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable students.
