Job Description

SEN Academic Mentor

Want a role where your support changes a pupil’s educational outcome?

Use your calm, structured approach to help learners with a range of needs access lessons and succeed.

*** SEN Academic Mentor
*** November 2025 start, July 2026 finish
*** £85 - £110 per day
*** School located in Coleshill
*** Support across a wide range of special educational needs

What you’ll do:
Provide steady, in-class and withdrawal support for pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and speech/language needs. You’ll break tasks into clear steps, use visual scaffolds and now/next routines, and coach regulation and social communication. Expect brief, targeted boosters in literacy and numeracy, precision teaching for key skills, and concise progress notes that feed directly into next steps with teachers and the SENCO.

Who you are:
A thoughtful graduate who communicates plainly, holds consistent boundaries, and earns trust without over-prompting. You notice what helps each learner, adapt quickly, and keep sessions purposeful without losing warmth.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This Coleshill school serves a mixed local intake and runs calm, predictable routines from arrival to dismissal. Inclusion is embedded rather than bolted on: the SEN team leads regular plan–do–review cycles, keeps visual supports and sensory tools to hand, and provides access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is front and centre (systematic phonics and daily guided reading), while maths follows a small-steps sequence with frequent retrieval and practical models. Year teams co-plan and share ready-made intervention packs, model answers and assessment checklists—so you’re never starting from scratch. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves, helping you make impact quickly and develop a strong portfolio for Educational Psychology or initial teacher training.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your November availability, DBS status, and (if possible) two referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school interview/observation. Apply early—the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
