Job Description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want school experience that links directly to Educational Psychology or teacher training?

Use your psychology toolkit to help one pupil with Autism feel secure, focused, and ready to learn.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 support for a child with Autism

Role snapshot:
Provide steady, 1:1 support across the day. You’ll chunk tasks into clear stages, use visual timetables and now/next prompts, and rehearse routines so transitions are predictable. Expect short, purposeful sessions that build communication, regulation and core literacy/numeracy. Capture brief progress notes and align next steps with the class teacher and SENCO.

You will bring:
A calm manner, sharp observation, and plain-English explanations. You follow support plans faithfully, notice triggers early, and adapt without fuss so the pupil can re-engage quickly.

Requirements
• Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
• Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Clear interest in SEN, child development and wellbeing.
• Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ two-form entry primary serves a diverse Wolverhampton community and keeps classrooms calm through simple, consistent routines. Inclusion is embedded: plan–do–review cycles run each term, visual supports and sensory tools are readily available, and regulation spaces are used proactively rather than punitively. Reading is a whole-school focus (systematic phonics lower down, guided reading and vocabulary in KS2), while maths is taught in small, connected steps with frequent retrieval. New staff get a clear induction, shared intervention packs, weekly bite-size CPD, and short coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves—ideal conditions to build evidence for EP or ITT routes.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability and DBS status (add two referees if you can). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
