Job Description

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Want school experience that links cleanly to Educational Psychology or ITT?

Use your psychology grounding to help pupils with Autism and ADHD feel secure, focused, and successful.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £90 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Ward of Selly Oak
*** SEN support for Autism and ADHD

About the role:
Provide calm, consistent 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism and ADHD. You’ll break tasks into clear stages, use visual timetables/now-next prompts, rehearse routines, and coach regulation and social communication. Expect short, evidence-informed sessions in literacy and numeracy, with tight feedback loops to class teachers and the SENCO.

About you:
A psychology (or related) graduate who observes carefully, communicates plainly, and adapts quickly. You hold firm but fair boundaries, reduce prompts over time, and keep pupils moving towards independence.

Requirements
  • Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in SEN, child development and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ two-form entry primary in the Ward of Selly Oak serves a diverse community and runs simple, consistent behaviour routines so classrooms stay calm. Inclusion is a strength: the SEN team leads termly plan–do–review cycles, keeps ready-to-use visual supports and sensory tools on hand, and provides access to regulation spaces when needed. Reading is front and centre (systematic phonics and daily guided reading), while maths follows a small-steps sequence with regular retrieval and shared methods across year groups. New colleagues receive a structured induction, access to labelled intervention packs, weekly bite-size CPD, and short coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves—ideal conditions to make measurable impact and build a portfolio for Educational Psychology or ITT routes.

How to Apply
Email your CV and include your availability and DBS status (add two referees if possible). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
