Job Description

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Ready to build real SEN experience in a high performing primary?

Help children with autism feel safe, focused and successful in class.

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £90 - £100 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Selly Oak
*** 1:1 and small group support to children with autism

What you’ll do:
Provide steady 1:1 support and small group sessions that remove barriers to learning. Break activities into clear steps, use visual timetables and now next prompts, and scaffold transitions so the day feels predictable. Run short, purposeful work on communication, regulation and core literacy and numeracy. Keep brief notes on progress and agree next actions with the class teacher and SENCO.

About you:
Calm, consistent and clear in your language. You follow support plans, notice triggers early, and adapt your approach without fuss. You build trust and help pupils move towards independence.

Requirements
  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication, confident written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education or with children, strong interest in SEN and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children, relevant experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ Selly Oak primary is two form entry with calm, well organised classrooms and simple behaviour routines that everyone understands. Inclusion is a genuine strength. The SEN team runs regular plan do review cycles, provides ready to use visuals and sensory tools, and offers access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is prioritised with systematic phonics and daily guided reading. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with frequent retrieval and shared methods across year groups. Staff co plan and share model texts, worked examples and intervention packs so you can deliver quickly without rebuilding resources. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly bite size CPD and short coaching drop ins with precise, usable next moves. You get the conditions to show impact fast and build strong evidence for Educational Psychology or ITT routes.

How to Apply
Email your CV and confirm your availability and DBS status. Add two referees if you can. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
