Job Description

SATS Graduate Teaching Assistant

Ready to focus on Year 6 outcomes?

Help pupils tighten core knowledge and exam craft ahead of SATs.

*** SATS Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** January 2026 – July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Yardley
*** Prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs exams with Booster sessions

The Role:
You will run tightly planned booster sessions that slot directly into the Year 6 sequence. You will pre-teach key content, model answer structures, and rehearse timing for arithmetic and reasoning papers, as well as reading comprehension routines. You will diagnose gaps quickly with short checks, fix misconceptions in fractions, decimals and percentages, place value, and multi-step problems, and build fluency through retrieval and mini-quizzes. You will guide pupils to annotate questions, use mark-scheme cues and plan responses, then feed gains straight back into class work. You will keep concise impact notes, update trackers, and agree next steps with the class teacher each week so intervention stays aligned to upcoming assessments and deadlines.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You communicate clearly, organise sessions efficiently and keep pupils focused under time pressure. You spot errors early, break tasks into simple steps and build independence without over-prompting.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication, strong written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children, genuine commitment to KS2 progress.
  • Experience working with children, relevant experience is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Yardley primary is three-form entry with calm, predictable routines and protected intervention time in Year 6. Reading is prioritised through daily guided reading and vocabulary teaching. Maths is mapped in small, connected steps with regular low-stakes checks so methods are consistent across classes. Teams co-plan and share model texts, worked examples, past-paper item banks and lean revision packs, which makes preparation efficient and ensures your boosters dovetail with whole-class teaching. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise next moves, giving you strong conditions to show impact quickly and build evidence for teacher training.

How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
