About the Role
We have one remaining position available within our Building Services team at the Royal College of Art, based at our Battersea campus. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated engineer to join a prestigious institution, supporting the smooth operation and maintenance of our facilities.
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of HVAC systems, alongside general building services support. While your primary base will be at Battersea, you may occasionally be required to provide cover at our Kensington sites.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on HVAC systems, including AHUs, FCUs, and associated plant.
Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical and electrical systems.
Perform routine testing such as fire alarm and bell tests.
Undertake minor plumbing and fabric maintenance tasks as required.
Support the Facilities and Estates team in maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for staff and students.
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and statutory requirements.
Liaise with contractors and suppliers where necessary to coordinate maintenance activities.

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience in HVAC maintenance and general building services.
Knowledge of AHUs, FCUs, and other ventilation systems.
Basic understanding of plumbing and fabric maintenance.
Experience with fire alarm testing and general safety procedures.
Relevant trade qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ) in HVAC, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, dedicated team.
Flexibility to provide occasional cover at other college sites (primarily Kensington).

Desirable

Experience working within a higher education or public sector environment.
Multi-skilled background, ideally with electrical and HVAC crossover experience
