We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an
on-site Maintenance Electrician to work at
HMP Morton Hall.
The standard hours of work are
39 hours per week, worked across
7 days, with a
1 in 3 weekend shift pattern in place. This includes an
additional allowance of 15% of basic salary. As part of the role, you may also be included in an
on-call rota; when on standby, a generous allowance is paid.
Optional overtime is also available.
HMP Morton Hall offers a unique working environment that balances structure with openness. The establishment is performance-recognised, reflecting the high standards and commitment of the team on site.
This is not a typical prison environment. The site features open areas and a spacious layout, with just
five accommodation blocks, making it a more manageable and less confined setting.
The
Maintenance Electrician plays a key role in ensuring planned and reactive maintenance works are completed safely, compliantly, and on time.
You will be part of a
supportive and diverse team of approximately 20, with a strong work ethic. Work is typically completed independently alongside one other on-site Electrician, with the option to buddy up for health and safety when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
- Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE Wiring Regulations (installation work makes up approximately 10–20% of the role)
- Respond promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently
- Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components
- Actively fault find and resolve issues on domestic electrical systems
- Monitor, manage, and order critical spares for all electrical services
- Oversee and monitor the BMS system
- Support zero carbon and sustainability initiatives
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the line manager
What We’re Looking For:
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 Parts 1–3, BTEC, or NVQ Level 3 or above)
- BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition
- Knowledge and experience of electrical systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance, distribution, installation, and testing
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Comfortable working at heights
